A total of 448 people died in 2023 in 1,172 road accidents, against 494 deaths in 1,019 road accidents in 2022 - the data shows that while the number of accidents was up, that of fatalities was down during the period. According to police, the city has a total of 37 black spots, out of which 19 are on the national highways.
As per an estimate, around 25-30% of total accidents take place at these 37 black spots in Gurgaon. 66% of the fatalities are on national highways, whereas 15% are on PWD roads, 14% on GMDA roads, and 4% of the fatalities are on HSIIDC roads.
DCP (Traffic) Virender Vij said several initiatives were taken to ensure the smooth movement of traffic and reduce accidents. Taking action against drivers violating traffic rules, Gurgaon police issued a total of 1,366,569 challans from Jan 1, 2024 to Dec 28, 2024.
