According to NHAI Indore division project director Sumesh Banzal, they carried out an aerial survey of four major routes, covering around 360 km, using drones to mark encroachments that need to be removed to pave the way for the construction works.
"As per the survey, the system identified 47 encroachments on the 45 km-long stretch of the Indore-Dewas section NH 52, 448 encroachments on the 155 km-long stretch of the Indore-Gujarat section NH 47, 480 encroachments on the 82 km-long stretch of the Indore-Khalghat section NH 52, and 15 encroachments on the 82 km-long stretch of the Indore-Maharashtra section NH 52," he said, adding that the encroachments are, however, being verified through a physical survey.
In the drone survey carried out over hundreds of kolimetre, the operator travels in a car while the high-frequency drone flies high, taking pictures of the highway and identifying the encroachments. "There are, however, many objects, including trucks and other vehicles parked alongside roads, makeshift structures, and even construction materials dumped there, that the drones identify as encroachments. Thus, we marked the actual hurdles through a physical survey," he said, adding that the local administration of the concerned districts has been approached to help in removing the same.
