Jimny 5-door
Maruti Suzuki unveiled the India-made five-door Jimny in Japan, marking a significant milestone in the company's export strategy. The Jimny, the second most exported Maruti Suzuki model in FY25, is manufactured in Gurugram, India, and exported to nearly 100 countries. This launch makes it the second SUV, following the Fronx, to be exported to Japan in FY25.

The five-door Jimny, previously showcased at Auto Expo 2023 in India, joins the existing three-door version already available in the Japanese market. This expansion aims to capitalize on the growing global demand for the Jimny, leveraging Maruti Suzuki's production capabilities. The vehicle boasts a legacy as a global off-roader.

“The introduction of ‘Made in India’ Jimny 5-door in Japan is a testament to the global level of excellence in our manufacturing capability. It is our second model to be exported to Japan in this fiscal year (FY 2024-25) after Fronx in August 2024. Jimny is the second most exported Maruti Suzuki car in FY 2024-25. After its resounding success in markets like Mexico, Australia, and South Africa, we are confident that it will delight customers in Japan. The export of Jimny reaffirms our commitment towards ‘Make-in-India for the world," stated Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Increasing demand of Jimny

The Jimny has a rich history spanning over half a century and enjoys worldwide popularity. Over 3.5 million Jimny units have been sold across 199 countries and regions. Suzuki intends to leverage Maruti Suzuki's global production capacity to address the increasing demand for this iconic off-roader.

With the addition of the five-door version, Suzuki anticipates further growth in the Jimny's popularity. The decision to manufacture the five-door Jimny in India reflects Suzuki's recognition of Maruti Suzuki's production prowess. This strategic move strengthens India’s position as a key manufacturing hub for Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki exports

Maruti Suzuki's export performance in 2024 has been noteworthy. The company, India's leading passenger vehicle exporter, shipped over 323,000 vehicles to approximately 100 countries in the calendar year 2024. This represents a 43.5% share of India's total passenger vehicle exports during the same period.

The Fronx, which began exporting to Japan in August 2024, has witnessed a positive market response. This success further reinforces Maruti Suzuki's strategy of expanding its presence in international markets, including Japan, a key automotive market. The company's commitment to quality and manufacturing excellence is evident in its growing export figures. Maruti Suzuki continues to strengthen its position as a leading player in the global automotive industry.
