ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) India opened a new Electronic Stability Control (ESC) test track in Chennai, India, enhancing their vehicle safety testing capabilities. The track is certified by TÜV Rheinland and ARAI and will be accessible to customers and third parties. This investment reinforces ZF’s commitment to advancing automotive safety and innovation.

Comprehensive testing of vehicles

The new ESC test track complements ZF’s existing ABS test track in Chennai. It allows for comprehensive testing of vehicle stability, agility, and handling for a range of vehicles, from two-wheelers to heavy commercial vehicles. The facility will contribute to developing and testing advanced safety systems.

The 200-meter diameter dynamic pad, with its 0.9 µ surface friction, provides a controlled environment for precise performance measurement. This includes acceleration, braking, and cornering, pushing components to their limits for potential development insights. The 600-meter approach roads allow for simulating real-world driving challenges like slippery conditions and sudden braking. This ensures vehicles meet stringent safety standards and perform well in demanding situations.

“The inauguration of this world-class ESC test track is a significant achievement for ZF CVS India. This state-of-the-art facility will enable us to accelerate the development and testing of advanced safety systems, pushing the boundaries of vehicle safety while delivering innovative solutions that save lives. By investing in cutting-edge technology and infrastructure, we continue to stay committed to shaping the future of automotive safety,” P. Kaniappan, Managing Director, ZF Commercial Vehicles Solutions.

The facility’s advanced capabilities will expedite the development of life-saving safety technologies. This reinforces ZF CVS India’s dedication to improving road safety. The investment in cutting-edge technology underscores their commitment to innovation and leadership in the automotive safety sector.

Design of the track

The track's design allows engineers to analyse vehicle behavior under various conditions. This data-driven approach helps refine safety systems and optimise vehicle performance for diverse road conditions. The certification by TÜV Rheinland and ARAI underscores the track’s adherence to international quality and safety standards. This ensures reliable and consistent testing outcomes. Making the facility available to external parties promotes collaboration and industry-wide safety advancements.

“The ESC test track is a testament to our dedication to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction. By collaborating with leading industry experts and deploying the latest testing methodologies, we are driving the development of advanced safety systems that enhance vehicle performance and protect lives,”
Kaniappan added.

Kaniappan further emphasised the track's role in enhancing vehicle performance and safety. Collaboration with industry experts ensures the implementation of best practices. Utilising the latest testing methodologies facilitates the development of advanced safety systems. This focus on innovation and customer satisfaction reinforces ZF CVS India's commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
