“This MoU shall act as a proof of NOC from department concerned having the ownership of the land for future references for all the activities such as establishment, energisation, and maintenance of charging stations etc."
Following a series of deliberations and meetings for the past over a year, the Chandigarh municipal corporation and Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST) of the UT administration have finally signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for smooth functioning of EV charging stations across the city. With revenue being the major contentious issue between the two, it has now been decided that MC will get 100% revenue from EV charging stations as monthly rent and CREST will ensure timely payment of this rent to the civic body.

As per the MoU, the lease period for the EV charging stations will be for 10 years where lease rent has to be deposited with the MC before 10th of every month. While 39 locations across the city are currently identified for EV charging stations, the MC and CREST will jointly identify more such spots in the city for the purpose. It has also decided that the ownership of land will remain with the MC only.

Under the intent and scope of the agreement, the MoU reads, "The lease rent earned from these charging stations will be deposited with MC entirely, that is 100% of the rent due and earned against the lease on a monthly basis by not later than 10 of each month. CREST on behalf of the administration shall have the right to decide the lease rent to be charged from the end user which is variable for the 10 years of lease period. The ownership of the land where such installations will be done shall remain with the MC. This MoU shall act as a proof of NOC from department concerned having the ownership of the land for future references for all the activities such as establishment, energisation, and maintenance of charging stations etc."

The MoU said, "For setting up stations, the MC would provide the required space for 39 identified sites, within the premises of the identified locations subject to feasibility in order to develop the required infrastructure. The parties are keen to develop partnership for the projects, charging stations at the locations identified, finalised and handover by MC and may discuss for expansion at other locations, as per mutual understanding of MC and CREST for future purposes."
