River Indie scooter River, the Bengaluru-based electric scooter company, has launched an updated version of its Indie scooter. The new model features a single-speed gearbox with chain drive, new color options, and maintains its original price of INR 1,42,999 (ex-showroom Bengaluru). River plans to expand its retail presence to more cities in India by March 2025. The company has already sold over 3,000 Indie scooters since its launch in late 2023.
The new Indie is currently available for test rides and purchase at all River locations. These locations include Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Chennai. More information is available on the company's website.

The updated Indie scooter now comes in two new colors: Winter White and Storm Grey. These are in addition to the existing Monsoon Blue, Summer Red, and Spring Yellow options. A key change in the new model is the introduction of a single-speed gearbox with chain drive.
The scooter includes Lock&Load pannier-stays for customisation options and accessories to enhance its utility. The updated Indie retains the three ride modes—Eco, Ride, and Rush—and the 110 km range on a single charge, as per the original model.
River's future plans
This feature aims to reduce the cost of ownership and increase the scooter's durability. River plans to expand its retail network in the coming months, targeting cities like Coimbatore, Vizag, Hubli, Cochin, Belgaum, Vellore, Mysore, and Uppal.
The company aims to have 25 River stores across India by March 2025. The original Indie, launched in late 2023, features 55 liters of lockable storage space, divided between a 12-liter glovebox and 43 liters of under-seat storage. It has front-footpegs and 14-inch wheels.
“Since our launch in October last year, we have sold over 3000 Indies. We’ve been carefully listening to customer feedback and a lot of it has been incorporated in the new Indie. Our plan for the next two months is to launch stores in Coimbatore, Vizag, Hubli, Cochin, Belgaum, Vellore, Mysore and Uppal. We aim to have 25 River Stores across India by March 2025,” stated Aravind Mani, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of River.
He highlighted the company's sales figures and the incorporation of customer feedback into the new Indie. He also outlined River's expansion plans.
“We have seen that a chain drive with single speed gearbox has several distinctive advantages. One, it is more durable. Second, the long term cost of ownership decreases with this upgrade. Third, it is easy to assemble and repair, and hence more scalable,” commented Mazher Ali Baig Mirza, Head of Mechanical Design at River.
