Features
The new BMW M2's six-cylinder in-line engine delivers a maximum output of 480 hp. Peak torque is 600 Nm with the automatic transmission and 550 Nm with the manual transmission. The engine's power delivery is linear and sustained through the rev range. Maximum torque is available between 2,650 and 6,130 rpm. The engine reaches its maximum output at 6,250 rpm, with a redline at 7,200 rpm.
Accelerator mapping and response have been improved in all drive modes. This results in quicker acceleration responses with both the eight-speed M Steptronic and the optional six-speed manual gearbox. The M2 accelerates from 0-100 kmph in 4 seconds with the automatic transmission and 4.2 seconds with the manual transmission. The M Driver's Package increases the electronically limited top speed from 250 km/h to 285 km/h.
The standard eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic offers sporty gear changes. The wide gear spread balances efficiency and power delivery. Three distinct setups are available: EFFICIENT, SPORT, and SPORT PLUS. These settings modify engine characteristics and chassis response, adjusting electronically controlled dampers.
The optional six-speed manual gearbox provides a classic driving experience. Gear ratios and spread are optimised for the engine's performance. The Gear Shift Assistant ensures smooth downshifts during braking.
The increased engine output improves 0-100 km/h acceleration by 0.1 seconds compared to the previous model. The new M2 achieves this in 4.0 seconds with the automatic transmission and 4.2 seconds with the manual transmission. The 0-200 km/h sprint is also improved by 0.6 seconds, now taking 12.9 seconds with the automatic and 13.7 seconds with the manual.
The latest BMW iDrive, Operating System 8.5, offers touch, gesture, and voice control. The BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant learns driver habits, provides tips, and integrates smartphone apps. Wireless smartphone integration and Remote Software Upgrades keep the car updated. Driver Assistance Systems enhance comfort and safety. Standard features include Cruise Control, Attentiveness Assistant, and Reverse Assistant.
BMW EfficientDynamics measures, such as intelligent lightweight design, Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start-Stop, electric power steering, and optimised aerodynamics, contribute to fuel efficiency.
Standard safety features include head and side airbags for front occupants, head airbags for rear seats, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) with ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), M Dynamic Mode (MDM), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dry Braking function, and Active M Differential.
