Additionally, SAVWIPL has installed 18.5 MWp of rooftop solar power at its Chakan facility, which offsets nearly 30% of the plant's CO2 emissions. Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached a significant milestone by planting over 700,000 trees across Maharashtra as part of its commitment to sustainability. This effort includes planting the 100,000th tree at the Green Future Park near the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar car manufacturing facility, enhancing the oxygen-rich environment of the Shendra Industrial area.
A substantial part of SAVWIPL’s environmental efforts includes the restoration of mangrove forests. The company has restored 100 hectares of degraded mangrove forests in Alibaug, planting over 580,000 trees to rejuvenate this critical coastal ecosystem.
By integrating tree plantation, renewable energy utilisation, and mangrove restoration, SAVWIPL underscores its commitment to ecological restoration and sustainability, ensuring a green and sustainable future for the communities it operates in.
Company's sustainability strategy
SAVWIPL's tree plantation initiatives are part of a broader sustainability strategy that encompasses multiple green projects. These efforts aim to reduce the company's carbon footprint, and substantial progress has been made. The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant has been fully decarbonised and operates on 100% Green Energy.
Additionally, SAVWIPL has installed 18.5 MWp of rooftop solar power at its Chakan facility, which offsets nearly 30% of the plant's CO2 emissions. This is a part of their ongoing efforts to integrate renewable energy sources into their operations.
Rainwater harvesting is another key component of SAVWIPL's environmental strategy. The company has developed a rainwater harvesting capacity that exceeds 600 million liters in drought-prone villages of Maharashtra, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable water management.
Ecological restoration projects across the state
Over the past few years, SAVWIPL has been active in supporting ecological restoration projects in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Pune, and other areas of Maharashtra. Key projects include the plantation of 25,000 trees at Oxygen Park and 11,500 trees at the Green Hub.
“The 63,500 trees at the recently developed Green Future Park have significantly expanded these efforts,” the company stated, emphasising the importance of their ongoing initiatives.
These trees are expected to have a significant impact on CO2 reduction once they reach maturity in five to seven years. Beyond environmental benefits, the projects contribute to reducing local temperatures, restoring ecosystems, and enhancing green cover.
SAVWIPL's initiatives are rich in biodiversity and align with the Group's environmental mission statement of “goTOzero,” aiming to achieve zero environmental impact through its sustainability measures.
