Unifor has reached a tentative agreement with General Motors over wages and job security for workers.Unifor reached a tentative agreement with General Motors early Wednesday over wages and job security for workers at its Ingersoll, Ontario plant, the Canadian labour union said.
Unifor said details of the agreement will first be released to union members at a ratification meeting on Sept. 22.
The deal comes after the union and the carmaker extended a negotiation deadline that was originally set to expire on Tuesday.
Unifor Local 88 had previously said that 97% of its more-than-1,300 members were in favour of stopping work at the Ontario CAMI plant which makes electric vehicles and batteries, if a deal was not reached.
Unifor and GM started contract negotiations last week.
