JSW MG Motors with LICO Materials JSW MG Motor India and LICO Materials, part of Epsilon Group, launched a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) using repurposed MG ZS EV batteries. This initiative, part of ‘Project Revive,’ aims to promote a circular EV economy and sustainable energy solutions. The BESS offers a longer lifespan and reduced running costs compared to traditional options. This marks JSW MG Motor India’s fourth and most advanced pilot project under ‘Project Revive.’
What does it indicate?
This project represents JSW MG Motor India's commitment to fostering a circular EV economy by finding new uses for EV batteries beyond their initial lifespan. The company is actively collaborating with like-minded organizations to explore and expand the potential of second-life battery applications. The BESS technology is intended to contribute to a cleaner energy future for India by enhancing grid stability, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and maximizing the utilization of renewable energy sources.
How will LICO Materials contribute in it?
LICO Materials specializes in end-of-life battery recycling and refurbishment. The company played a crucial role in developing the BESS project. Three different BESS models have been created, catering to residential, commercial, and industrial needs. These models offer varying energy storage capacities.
The three BESS models offer energy storage capacities of 18kWh, 100kWh, and 300kWh, ensuring versatility and reliability. They incorporate advanced safety features, including immersion oil cooling and heating, multi-layered safety designs, and smart thermal management systems. The systems operate efficiently across a wide temperature range of -20°C to 60°C and come with a warranty exceeding five years.
“Project Revive is an important initiative for us as it helps us make the EV ecosystem more sustainable by infusing a second life into our EV batteries. Through meaningful partnerships, we are committed to creating a gamut of sustainable energy storage solutions for diverse applications. Our partnership with LICO Materials is a testament to furthering this commitment by developing unique solutions that combines advanced technology with environmental responsibility. I am certain that successfully deploying unique initiatives under ‘Project Revive’ aids in bringing circularity in the EV ecosystem and paves the way for a greener and more sustainable future,” stated Neha Jain, Head EV and Innovation Ecosystem, JSW MG Motor India.
“At Epsilon Group, we see innovation as a tool to create a more sustainable future. Through this collaboration between JSW MG Motor India on ‘Project Revive,’ and with LICO’s LiGRID system, we are redefining how energy is stored and used. It’s not just about technology—it’s about making a lasting impact on the way we power our world, ”added Vikram Handa, Managing Director, Epsilon Carbon.
“At LICO, we are committed to a greener, circular economy in the energy sector. Our LiGRID series embodies this vision by giving end-of-life batteries a second life, reducing waste, and advancing sustainable energy solutions. By pioneering a new era in energy storage, we’re not only developing innovative BESS technology but also addressing the critical needs of sustainability and grid resilience,” said Gaurav Dolwani, Founder & CEO of LICO Materials.
