The company delivered its first Revuelto sports car in September. The luxury Italian marquee believes that electrification in the auto industry is coming, but at a different speed than expected. This opens a room for the auto major to offer a good portfolio of hybrids; however, the company is also planning to launch its fully electric car by the end of the decade.
“Our current portfolio is perfectly fitting to the current demand… And the full electric car will be launched as planned.. It is always an additional offer,” explains Lamborghini’s CTO, Rouven Mohr.
Lamborghini’s CTO, Rouven Mohr Dismissing industry skepticism, he said Lamborghini has consistently communicated the timeline of its electric car launch -- either end of 2029, or beginning of 2030.
Lamborghini’s hybrid technology portfolio includes the Urus SE, Temerario, and the Revuelto. The company delivered its first Revuelto sports car in September. According to the company, this mid-engined plug-in hybrid supercar will be sold out until 2026.
The slow pace of electric vehicle adoption in the auto industry is working in favor of the company’s current portfolio (hybrid), says Mohr.
EV slowdown brings more demand for hybrids
This slowdown is an advantage and fits perfectly with the company’s current business strategy. “Our strategy now is fitting perfectly. Because what the people are asking for is hybrid cars,” stated Mohr.
However, he added that the company is also not in a rush to roll out its first fully electric car, they are currently focusing on hybrid technology only. “At the moment we are careful in the sense of replacing an existing order.. So we want to continue with our hybridisation, adding an electric one,” he further explains.
He further added that the hybrid technology has brought a better driving experience for the buyers along with the added advantage of high power and instant torque that electric motors provide.
