"Construction work of most of the truck terminals is nearing completion," transport commissioner Amitabh Thakur said.
The state govt has signed an agreement with National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), an organisation under the ministry of road transport and highways, to manage and maintain the upcoming truck terminals across Odisha.

State transport secretary Usha Padhee said the primary aim of setting up the truck terminals is to curb unauthorised parking of heavy vehicles along highways and reduce accident rates.

As per the agreement with NHLML, which was signed at the Utkarsh Odisha conclave on Wednesday, each terminal will have amenities for drivers and include extensive parking space, dormitory with toilets, drinking water provisions, canteen, food plaza, vehicle repair garage, ATM, fuel station and guard room.

In the first phase, construction of truck terminals is underway at 23 locations across 18 districts — Kendrapara, Angul, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Malkangiri, Balasore, Sundargarh, Khurda, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Ganjam, Nuapada, Bargarh, Cuttack, Jajpur and Jagatsinghpur.
